How to upgrade a bitaxe Gamma601 from 1.2T to 1.5T?

Are you looking to push your Bitaxe Gamma 601 beyond its factory limits? While the stock 1.2 TH/s is solid, many users want to hit that 1.5 TH/s milestone. However, overclocking leads to higher temperatures—often exceeding 50°C—which can trigger instability.

In this guide, we will show you the professional “hardware + software” dual upgrade method used by Magicminer experts to reach a stable 1.5T+ while actually lowering your temps.

The Challenge: Heat Dissipation

At a stock 1.2T, the ASIC temperature often sits around 49-50°C with a voltage of 1193mV. To hit 1.5T safely, we need to replace the cooling system entirely before adjusting the frequency.

Step 1: Hardware Overhaul (The Cooling Mod)

To achieve a “Magic” cooling effect, we replace the stock radiator with a high-performance dual-copper tube radiator.

  1. Disassembly: Remove the four corner screws and unplug the fan. The Bitaxe radiator uses a convenient snap-on design—simply pinch the buckles to release.

  2. Cleaning: Wipe away the old thermal grease. Apply a fresh, even layer of high-quality thermal paste to the ASIC chip.

  3. The New Radiator: Install the new lightweight dual-copper tube radiator. Magicminer Tip: Ensure the orientation doesn’t block the air outlet.

  4. Fan & Bracket: Snap the bracket onto the radiator and install the new fan.

    • Crucial: The fan logo must face downward to blow air directly onto the fins.

    • Protection: Add a protective mesh to prevent foreign objects from damaging the blades.

  5. The “Secret” Component: Install a small auxiliary heatsink on the hottest part of the board (near the VRMs). This simple addition can drop temps by another 2-3°C.

Step 2: Software Tuning (The 1.5T+ Boost)

With the new hardware installed, the temperature should drop by approximately 10°C. Now it’s time to tune the settings via the web interface:

  • Frequency: Adjust to 800MHz.

  • Voltage: Set to 1200mV.

  • Results: After a restart, the Bitaxe Gamma 601 can stabilize at over 1.5 TH/s, with peak bursts reaching up to 1.63 TH/s.

Final Result

By following this Magicminer upgrade path, our unit now runs at a cool 46°C—a significant improvement from the original 56°C+, even while running at a much higher hashrate.
